GoDaddy is one of the largest domain name registrars in the world and manages several million registered domains for its hundreds of thousands of customers. I’ve just come across a disturbing article which features a video showing the CEO of GoDaddy, Bob Parsons shooting and killing an elephant at close range.

I’ve used GoDaddy for domain name registration a few times over the years but I won’t ever use them again. Bob Parsons described the video as being “one of the most beneficial and rewarding things I do”. I don’t care how wealthy you are or how you think this benefits anyone (there are other ways of moving elephants away from village crops) but this is simply wrong.

So, if you’re planning on registering a domain name please do not use GoDaddy! If you have any domains currently with them I highly recommend that you move away from them immediately. As I understand it NameCheap is offering domain transfers at ‘less-than-cost’ prices of just $4.99, plus they’ll donate $1 per transfer to Save The Elephants.

Because of this I am no longer recommending GoDaddy to anyone for any of its services and will instead refer them to this thread each time their name is mentioned. If you have a web site or blog, perhaps consider writing a post similar to this one!

Installation was quick and painless – plug in the tiny (ultra tiny) USB receiver, insert the two batteries and you’re good to go.
First thoughts, it looks fantastic! It’s so much more appealing than my previous Logitech keyboard which although it did the job it was time that I moved to a wireless one. The Microsoft Arc keyboard is considerably smaller than the typical desktop keyboard but that’s because it’s been built for portability. In fact, in the box there’s a sleeve/pouch sort-of-thing for keeping the keyboard safe whilst on the move.

The only downside I’ve come across so far, and I noticed this within seconds of turning it on is that there is no caps lock indicator which means there’s no at a glance way of immediately knowing you’ve got caps lock on or not. Bit of a pain, but not the end of the world.

So, so far I would recommend the Microsoft Arc keyboard if you’re looking to buy a new one! I’ve also ordered the Microsoft Arc mouse so that should hopefully turn up in a day or two.

My active DisplayPort to DVI adapter arrived today meaning I can finally take full advantage of using three monitors with a single graphics card. I’ve been using three monitors for quite a while now but the USB graphics display adapter I was using wasn’t exactly perfect.

After setting it up the first thing I just had to try is Eyefinity. Eyefinity is a way which allows you to run multiple displays from a single graphics card and then combine them all to create one large screen. This is different from simply extending your display. By extending it you’re simply given another desktop, with AMD Eyefinity however all of your monitors are combined into one single display. So, to test out this whole Eyefinity thing why not use Battlefield: Bad Company 2? That’s exactly what I did.

In all honesty it’s a bit strange to begin with. Where with just one screen your view is quite limited with three screens you can see so much more. It’s great for playing games like this because it allows you to see more to your sides meaning you’ve got a better view of where your enemies are.

All of these pictures were taken with my iPhone which is why they’re not all that brilliant. When you’re sat up close in front of this though it’s just brilliant. I just hope that more games in the future start supporting AMD Eyefinity. If you’re a true hardcore PC gamer you’l probably want to check this out for yourself.

So yes, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is brilliant with AMD Eyefinity and I would highly recommend it to anyone!

Today my batch of Moo business cards arrived in the post and I couldn’t be happier. To begin with I had ordered a sample pack of 10 Moo business cards just to get an idea as to how they would turn out – after all, this was the first time I’d bought business cards online. As I’d expected they were great and so I decided to make a real order. I’ve taken a few snaps using my iPhone (iPhone 3GS, so the camera isn’t fantastic ).

The cards are quite simple really, my name, URL and contact details placed on top of two full colour graphics (the opposite side is in blue). I decided to use the bright graphics simply so that they stand out. Think of it this way – if there are 20 business cards scattered in a pile then the brigher more colourful one is most likely to be chosen. Of course, that’s not why my clients choose me as a web developer, but I’m sure you get the point.

So, if you’re in need of some new business cards why not head on over to Moo.com and see what they can do for you.

What’s the worst thing that could happen to an affiliate site whose revenue comes from selling cases for the iPhone? Well, it’s happened to me. Due to the signal issues with the iPhone 4 Apple have decided that they will now provide free bumper cases to those who have or are about to purchase an iPhone 4. On top of that they are also offering a full refund to all customers who have previously purchased a bumper case from Apple.

I’ve seen the effects of this with one of my affiliate sites right away and have watched sales figures plummet since the announcement was made. Sure, my site may not be affiliated with the official bumper case product but who’s going to buy an iPhone case if Apple are handing them out for free? There may be the occasional iPhone owner who wants something different than what Apple is offering and may go ahead and purchase their own but this has put myself and many other iPhone accessory affiliates at a disadvantage which will likely cost quite a bit in affiliate sales.

I guess it’s time to concentrate my SEO efforts on alternative products.

I’ve just tried updating my iPhone OS to the latest version but came across a very annoying problem. After downloading the iPhone update and clicked through the steps I received the error “An Unknown error occurred (9)”. After a little searching around the web for a good fifteen minutes or so I wasn’t able to find any fix to this although I did come across plenty of forum threads where people have been having the same problem.

Some of the suggestions I fould included changing the USB cable, using a different USB port, upgrading to the latest iTunes version, etc. – All the standard stuff really. But none of this seemed to work.

After a little thinking I thought I’d disable my firewall (why not aye?). And guess what, it worked perfectly. My iPhone has been updated and is working nicely.

I just thought I’d put this up in case anyone else comes across the same problem and is looking for possible fixes.

It seemed to just be a bigger iPod – something which I definitely don’t need. The other day however I got my hands on one and I have to say that I love it. It’s just brilliant! I’m already an iPhone owner so this whole touch interface is nothing new to me but I still found the iPad to be a great experience.

I didn’t have much time with it but did get to try a couple of apps and one or two games. I found that gaming on the iPad was great fun – particularly full on racing games. To be honest it’s the gaming element and of course the chance of being able to browse the web lazily from anywhere in the house without a great big laptop that’s making me want one the most.

Sadly though the iPad comes with quite a hefty price tag – £429 for the base model… which sucks! If this had been around the £300 mark I’d already have one by now but parting with that amount of money for something which is essentially a bigger version of my iPhone is a tough decision. For now, I’m not going to get one regardless of how much I want one. But let’s just see how long that lasts
